Excel to JSON

Convert Excel (.xlsx) and CSV files into JSON entirely in your browser. The first row becomes the column names, the remaining rows become JSON objects. Preview the result, choose which columns to include, format or minify the JSON, and download it as UTF-8. Files are parsed locally with SheetJS — nothing is uploaded.

How to use Excel to JSON

Open a local .xlsx or .csv file and convert it to JSON right in your browser with SheetJS. The file is read locally — nothing is ever uploaded.

File format rules

  • The first row must contain the column names. Complex multi-line or merged multi-column headers are not supported — use a single header row.
  • Every following row becomes one JSON object; empty cells become empty values.
  • CSV files must be UTF-8 encoded.
  • Supported extensions: .xlsx, .csv.

Steps

  • Open — pick a file; the header row and a column list appear.
  • Columns — check the columns you want in the output (at least one; all are selected by default).
  • Convert — the JSON result previews instantly after opening or changing the selection.
  • Format / Minify — pretty-print with indentation, or collapse to a compact single line.
  • Download — saves the result as a UTF-8 .json file.
  • Clear — empties the result pane.

Tip: for large sheets the tool caps the number of rows it converts to protect memory; the export still reflects the selected rows.
